Recently SS Rajamoulis RRR won the Golden Globes for Naatu Naatu under the Best Song category. While it represented Indian cinema on a global map, this is not the first time Indian movies were nominated for the Golden Globes. Before Ram Charan and Jr.NTR starrer RRR, here are 5 marvelous Indian movies which made it to the Golden Globes nominations. The third one will shock you.
1. Do Aakhen Baara Haath - 1957
A 1957 cult classic, the story of the movie revolves around how an emoathetuic jail warden takes it upon himself to rehabilitate six prisoners to a barren farm where they learn the true meaning of hardwork. Do Aakhen Baara Haath was nominated in the Samuel Goldwyn International Film Award category.
2. The World Of Apu - 1959
If it is a Satyajit Ray movie, it has to be way ahead of its time. The World Of Apu starring Sharmila Tagore and Soumitra Chatterjee secured the nominations for Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language at the Golden Globes, in 1961. The Bengali classic revolves around an orphan who is dedicated to becoming a writer despite the challenges life throws at him.
3. Gandhi - 1982
Despite the movie being in English, Gandhi was submitted under Best Foreign Film category. It even won the Golden Globes in the following categories - Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director - Motion Picture, Best Screenplay - Motion Picture, and New Star of the Year - Actor. Directed by Richard Attenborough, the movie is based on Mahatma Gandhi's life struggles.
4. Salaam Bombay - 1988
Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay! was nominated in the Best Picture - Non-English category. The movie's plot is about a young Krishna who breaks his brother's motorbike. To make him realize the value of money, his mother asks him to eanr Rs. 500. And off he is on an adventurous journey of surviving in a city like Bombay.
