After Laapataa Ladies was thrown out of the Oscars 2025 race, the film federation has now revealed a new list of Indian movies that will be contending for the Academy Awards. The list includes action dramas like Kanguva and critically acclaimed films such as Girls Will Be Girls. Read on to see which six movies will be running the race for the Oscars.
1. All We Imagine As Light
After Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light won big at Cannes, it may have a chance to represent Indian cinema at the Oscars 2025. The Hindi-Malayalam film stars Kani Kusruti and Divya Prabha in the lead.
2. Girls Will Be Girls
The coming-of-age story was helmed by Shuchi Talati. It is one of the six movies contending in the list of Indian movies running for the race of Oscars 2025.
3. Kanguva
While Suriya's Tamil fantasy drama had an amazing start, it saw a massive dip over the weekend. As soon as the film industry analyst Manobala Vijayabalan announced Kanguva to be contending for Oscars, netizens were shocked.Fans took to social media and shared their anger over Kanguva entering the Academy Awards. One user satirically questioned, “Under which category? Worst film of the year?”
4. Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life
The Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer action drama has also been shortlisted to be sent to the Oscars this year. While some think this could be a masterpiece, others debate there were several other movies that deserve the spot on the list.
5. Santosh
The Hindi-language crime drama headlined by Shahana Goswami has also found itself contending for the Oscars 2025. Will it go through, or just like Laapataa Ladies, the film will be thrown out?
6. Swatantrya Veer Savarkar
The Hindi-language political biopic marked Randeep Hooda's directorial debut and was critically acclaimed. Along with Laapataa Ladies, this film was also nominated for this year's Academy Awards.The nominations for Oscars will begin on January 8. The Academy will announce the final nominations on January 17.
