Radio City Freedom Awards 2013 All You Need to Know!

RCFA 2013 was awarded the Best On-Ground/Activation by an FM Station at the India Radio Forum Awards 2014.

Following the award for Best Hip Hop Album at RCFA 2013, Machas with Attitude and Enkore bagged a song recording offer with the eminent composer Vishal Dadlani. They recorded the song Ready Steady Po for SRKs 2013 hit film Chennai Express.

Bands like Indus Creed, Machas with Attitude, Dualist Inquiry, Chaos, Live Banned, Vivek Rajagopalan, 1833 AD and Benny Dayal won the Jury awards that year. Enkore, Sahil & Urvil, Shankar Tucker, Chaos, Raahie and Spud in the Box were felicitated with the Peoples Choice award.

The awards were given away by celebrity presenters including ace music composer Vishal Dadlani, director Bejoy Nambiar and lyricist/singer Swanand Kirkire, amongst others.

The best of indie music were recognized amidst scintillating performances. Rabbi Shergills Bulla Ki Jana, set the stage on fire as he also belted out his folk fusion & Sufi chartbusters. Fusion band Junkyard Groove jammed never before while Pratigya swept the RCFA audience off its feet with its Sufi-Rock renditions. Midival Punditz brought about an infectious energy to the night with their trademark fusion tracks.

The celebration of indie music reached a crescendo with the grand finale of Radio City Freedom Awards on 30th May 2013 in Mumbai. The event was hosted by popular VJ Gaurav Kapur along with popular Radio City RJs.

A whopping 700 entries were received from artistes across genres. With 36 artistes as finalists, RCFA 2013 managed to garner over 4000 votes that year.

Luke Kenny, Midival Punditz, Atul Churamani, Yotam Agam & Nandini Srikar formed the panel of our esteemed judges who evaluated the shortlisted entries.

The awards were divided into eight categories - Best Hip-Hop/Rap Artist, Best Folk Fusion Artist, Best Pop Artist, Best Rock, Best Metal, Best Electronica Artist, Best Video and Best Album Art. Musicians were asked to apply to be considered for the awards by uploading their entries or by sending physical copies of their work to the Radio City offices in their respective cities. Entries were received between April 6 to May 5.

In April 2013, Radio City 91.1 FM announced the first ever Radio City Freedom Awards -RCFA. A platform recognizing and rewarding the best independent music across genres and languages, the launch was marked with a press conference held in Mumbai.
