Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap finds himself in yet another swampy controversy after his name was mentioned in the infamous The Epstein Files.
He was named as 'The Bollywood Guy' in a recently released set of s linked to the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
On January 30, the US Department of Justice released over three million s, revealing shocking emails and correspondence involving a wide range of prominent names worldwide.
How is Anurag Kashyap linked to the Epstein Files?
According to reports, the filmmaker is named as 'The Bollywood Guy' in the Epstein Files in email exchanges between the late convict and individuals such as Giuseppe Bersani, Gino Yu, and Ornella Corazza.
The emails reportedly discussed Epstein's plans to travel to Cuba and other locations, in which Kashyap was mentioned as one of the expected guests who would be attending workshops on Buddhism, technology, and medicine.
In one of the messages, he was mentioned as 'a famous Bollywood director'. However, Anurag is yet to comment on the same.
While the Gangs of Wasseypur director's name appears on the files, this doesn't prove he was associated with the controversial sex scandal or involved in any of Epstein's criminal activities.
At the moment, there is no concrete evidence that proves Anurag Kashyap and Jeffrey Epstein were present at the same place at the same time.
In the email correspondence, Kashyap's name is listed alongside popular personalities like Ben Goertzel, Bruce Damer, and DJ Spooky, often referred to as "cool people" invited to events in Shanghai.
Notably, Anurag Kashyap is not the only Indian film personality who found himself on the Epstein Files. Actress Nandita Das also appears in the s, listed as the speaker at the 2015 Lake District Festival in the UK, organised by Jem Bendell.
On the work front, the filmmaker, who is also an actor, will next be seen in Adivi Sesh's Dacoit, where he will play the lead antagonist. Also starring Mrunal Thakur and Prakash Raj, the film is slated to release on April 10.
