Shah Rukh Khan Shares His Take On Insider Vs Outsider Debate At WAVES 2025

Shah Rukh Khan, the reigning King of Bollywood, proved that the industry runs solely on talent and hard work. He is a classic example of how an outsider can become a superstar with sheer dedication. At the recent WAVES Summit 2025, he shared his two cents about the insider vs. outsider debate.

The superstar, along with Deepika Padukone, attended a session titled The Journey: From Outsider to Ruler at the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai on Thursday. The session was moderated by Karan Johar.

SRK spoke in his signature satirical style and addressed the ongoing issue of outsiders' rage in the film industry. He even shared his problem about nepotism.

He addressed the debate in style and said, "I would like to clarify hunger and ambition are lofty words. I have a problem with the distinction of insider and outsider."

He emphasised that the real issue is not the tag but the urge to create one's own space in the cut-throat film industry.

"I think it is not important where you come from. Actually, what is important is how to make space in any world. What happens is most people start thinking, 'Oh, I, from the outside, only privilege will get a chance, and I don't have such a distinguished background. I will not get it. If you pity yourself, then you will not be able to make your way into the industry," Shah Rukh Khan further added.


The Jawan actor also shared that success comes to you only if you give your everything to make your mark in the world and not by waiting for someone to hand it to you. He quoted, 'No world gives a damn about you."

After his three-decade-long career, Shah Rukh looked back at how the industry accepted him despite being an outsider. He explained, 'When I came to the film industry, I believed this is my world, and the industry embraced me with open arms."


More about WAVES Summit 2025

The World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 is being held at the Jio Convention Centre in Bandra, Mumbai. It is an initiative led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Many prominent figures from the entertainment industry, like Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun, and Hema Malini, alongside others, graced the event.

The event, which commenced on May 1, is organised by the Union Ministry of Information amp Broadcasting. It will go on till May 4.
