When Tourist Family Director Felt Grateful After Nani Called The Film `A Gem`

No matter how much action, drama, thrill, suspense, or horror the South Indian film industry brings on the big screen, it is heartwarming dramas like Tourist Family that prove this genre gives the most wholesome experience. The Tamil blockbuster is yet another testament to how you don't need a big budget to create a captivating film.

Tourist Family saw a phenomenal run at the box office, and now it is streaming on OTT. The Sasikumar starrer is now available on JioHotstar.

As the film continues to receive rave reviews even for its OTT release, here's a throwback to when actor Nani appreciated the Tamil family drama and called it a "gem of a film".

The HIT 3 actor took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "Simple, heartwarming films with lots of goodness are what we deserve, and #TouristFamily delivers just that. (heart emoji). Thanking the whole cast and crew who made this gem of a film. Much needed."


The 25-year-old director Abishan Jeevinth was pleasantly surprised receiving praises for his film from the superstar himself. He said it was totally unexpected.

Replying to his tweet, Jeevinth wrote, "Sir, this was totally unexpected! Thank you so much for the encouragement - your tweet truly made our day! We're feeling extra grateful and super motivated!"

Despite clashing with Suriya's Retro, Tourist Family saw a stronger and better response at the box office. It has earned over 75 crore worldwide. The film also received appreciation from celebrities like SS Rajamouli, Rajinikanth, and Dhanush, among others.

The recent Tamil release follows the story of a Sri Lankan family of four who seek refuge in Tamil Nadu after entering India illegally. It explores the challenging lives of Sasikumar, Simran, Mithun Jai Sankar and Kamalesh, who play the lead roles.

After seeing a theatrical release on May 1, Tourist Family is now streaming on JioHotstar.
