With a competent biopic in ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ the trend suddenly changed for Bollywood and filmmakers, who are known to fall for formulaic patterns found their answer to a money-spinner, in biopics.
How many have we seen in the last couple of years? Listing a few, ‘Mary Kom’, ‘Neerja’, and ‘Azhar’.
The current favorite on everyone’s mind is ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’.
What makes biopics, a great bet for filmmakers? Simple. The audience is curious to know about the man behind the brand that is created out of a personality, we see on-screen. They monetize our curiosity and draft content around it.
The story of India’s most revered skipper will surely make for a great film.
Which is why we believe that 2016 is the year of biopics.
Don’t believe us? Well, the year isn’t over yet. And we’ve got Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ coming up next which is based upon wrestler Mahavir Phogat.
Only time will tell, how long will the formula last.
