Diljit Dosanjh Changed The Way Sardars And Punjabis Were Portrayed In Bollywood, Says Jassie Gill

Ahead of the Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan release, Jassie Gill is all set to appear on the big screens again. He becomes one of the few Punjabi singer-actors to make his way to Bollywood. Speaking of paving ways, Diljit Dosanjh created history by becoming the first-ever Punjabi singer to represent India at the global music festival Coachella. Appreciating the monstrous achievement, Jassie credited the Lover singer for changing the way Bollywood perceived Sardars and Punjabis.

Earlier typecasted as the funny element and comic relief in Hindi films, Jassie Gill believes it is Diljit Dosanjh who broke the stereotype of how Sardars were viewed and shown in Bollywood movies.
After his first Punjabi movie Mr. & Mrs. 420, Jassie went on to make his Bollywood debut in Happy Bhaag Jayegi. The movie starred Diana Penty, Sonakshi Sinha, Jimmy Shergill, and Ali Fazal in the lead. He then went on to do several other Hindi films like Panga (2020) with Kangana Ranaut and Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai? (2021).
As for Diljit, he made his big Bollywood debut with Udta Punjab. While the movie was critically acclaimed, the singer`s performance was highly appreciated. He will be seen next in The Crew alongside Kareena Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Tabu.
Both singers have also lent their voices to some superhit Bollywood songs.
In a recent interview, Gill said, "We used to talk about this in Punjab. Earlier in Bollywood, Sardars were shown as comedians. Their look was not even authentic, especially the way they wore turbans. We are thankful to Diljit Paaji for changing this. He showed people that Punjabis aren’t comedians, that they are stylish [and created awareness] about the kind of work they do."

Many Bollywood celebrities like Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, and Kriti Sanon, among others were seen cheering for Diljit on their social media accounts.
While Diljit and Jassie have never collaborated on a song or in a movie, the two have always been cordial and respectful with each other in their native industry.
