The Hera Pheri franchise is one of India’s most beloved comedy series. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the third installment, and now, filmmaker Priyadarshan has fuelled speculation about his return. The director, who helmed the 2000 classic Hera Pheri, hinted at his willingness to direct Hera Pheri 3 in a light-hearted exchange with Akshay Kumar on social media.
Akshay Kumar recently took to social media to share a candid moment from the sets of their upcoming film. Wishing Priyadarshan on his birthday, he wrote, “Happy Birthday, Priyan Sir! What better way to celebrate than by spending the day on a haunted set, surrounded by ghosts—both real and unpaid extras? Thank you for being a mentor and the only person who can make chaos look like a masterpiece. May your day be filled with fewer retakes. Wishing you a fantastic year ahead! @priyadarshan.official.”
In response, Priyadarshan surprised fans with his reply, “Thank you so much for your wishes, Akshay. In return, I would like to give you a gift—I’m willing to do Hera Pheri 3. Are you ready, @akshaykumar, @SunielVShetty, and @SirPareshRawal?”

In a recent interview, Akshay Kumar reflected on the film’s legacy: “When we started Hera Pheri, we didn’t know it would go on to become such a cult. Even when I saw the film, I didn’t fully realise its impact. Yes, it was funny, but none of us expected Babu Bhaiya, Raju, and Shyam to become iconic characters.”
Fans have long demanded a third installment, and Priyadarshan’s message has reignited their hopes.
Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar have previously worked together on multiple hits, including Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Bhagam Bhag (2006), and Khatta Meetha (2010). Their comic timing and storytelling have created several fan favourite films.
Their collaboration continues with their upcoming supernatural comedy Bhooth Bangla, featuring an ensemble cast including Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Mithila Palkar, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The film is slated for release on April 2, 2026.
