SRK starrer “KING” earns Rs. 665 CR during pre-release
Okay, we know you cannot keep calm! And why would you? After all, Bollywood’s Badshah Shah Rukh Khan is proving why he continues to rule the entertainment industry! Right before the release of his movie “King”, SRK has yet again hit the news and this time it is for the pre-release sale of the said movie.
For the unversed, even before hitting the big screens, his much-awaited action thriller KING has reportedly secured a staggering Rs 665 crore in pre-release deals, creating massive excitement across the film industry. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the upcoming entertainer is already making headlines for its extraordinary business, months of anticipation and star-studded cast.
As per the sources, “King” has secured lucrative agreements involving domestic and international theatrical distribution, digital streaming, satellite television and music rights. And overseas? Well, the overseas agreement is particularly noteworthy, with reports suggesting that it represents a record minimum guarantee for an Indian film. Meanwhile, streaming giant Netflix has reportedly acquired the digital rights for Rs 150 crore. Gathering all the other numbers, these deals bring KING’s reported pre-release business to Rs 665 crore. However, the Netflix agreement reportedly includes a performance-linked clause, meaning its final value could change depending on the film’s theatrical success.
A massive budget comes with massive expectations!
While the pre-release figures are, without a doubt, impressive, “KING” is also among Bollywood’s most expensive productions.
Reports suggest that the film’s production budget has climbed to approximately Rs 400 crore, excluding Shah Rukh Khan’s acting remuneration. Additional promotional and release expenses could push the overall investment significantly higher.
Industry estimates suggest that KING may need to collect around Rs 800 crore worldwide for its theatrical distributors to achieve profitability.
Importantly, the Rs 665 crore figure represents the reported value of pre-release rights agreements, not theatrical box-office collections or confirmed net profits.
