In a remarkable display of star power, Akshay Kumar has set a unique record at the 2025 box office. His latest outing, the comedy extravaganza Housefull 5, has stormed past his own action-drama Sky Force, securing its position as the third highest-grossing Hindi film of the year. This achievement underscores Kumar's consistent pull with audiences across different genres, even in a competitive market.

A Box Office Face-Off with Himself

In what can only be described as a box office face-off between Akshay Kumar andhellip Akshay Kumar himself, the superstar's latest release Housefull 5 has officially overtaken his own film Sky Force. The comic caper, a new installment in one of Bollywood's most successful comedy franchises, managed to rake in an impressive Rs 119.75 crore in just six days. This figure surpasses the lifetime collection of Sky Force, which concluded its theatrical run at Rs 112.75 crore.

Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 has shown remarkable resilience at the ticket window. Despite receiving mixed reviews and facing criticism for its plot, the film has avoided significant weekday drops. It opened strong with Rs 24 crore and peaked over the weekend. As of Wednesday, its sixth day, the film added Rs 8 crore to its tally, demonstrating steady audience interest.

With its stellar performance, Housefull 5 has firmly placed itself among the year's biggest hits. The film's earnings have propelled it past Salman Khan's Sikandar, which netted Rs 110.3 crore. Currently, it trails behind Ajay Devgn's critically acclaimed Raid 2 (Rs 171 crore) and the monumental blockbuster, Vicky Kaushal's epic Chhaava, which sits at a staggering Rs 585.7 crore. Akshay Kumar's ability to deliver two hits in contrasting genresmdashpatriotic action and slapstick comedymdashreaffirms his status as a box office heavyweight.

The Verdict: Is It a Hit?

While the film is nearing the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide, its "hit" status is a topic of discussion. Housefull 5 was mounted on a grand scale, with a reported budget of Rs 240 crore, making it India's most expensive comedy. The film boasts a massive ensemble cast including Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and Jacqueline Fernandez and was shot on a luxury cruise.

For it to be deemed a clean hit, trade analysts suggest it needs to surpass its budget in domestic net collections. While the producers are secure through satellite and digital rights, the film's continued momentum is crucial for distributors. As it stands, Housefull 5 is far from a failure and has a strong chance of becoming a profitable venture.
