A former investment banker turned a full-time homemaker, Jyoti Sabita Yadav freelances at day, while dabbling between Hindi and Urdu verses, at night.Radio City Freedom caught up with the spoken word artist ahead of the Free Verse Sessions, scheduled to be held at Fun Republic Social, Andheri on June 30th, 2018.Did the career shift from a full-time investment banker to a homemaker inspire you to take up writing?Jyoti: Yes, it's true, it did play a big role in that, I believe to create something artistic. Your mind has to be free from all kind of peer pressures and time is always an important factor. You should have ample amount of time that requires you to write. Reading short stories, poems and writing verses have always been my interest. But to write and perform happened to me, a few years ago. Coming to inspiration, being a mother really inspired me to write and create something innovative with the magic of words. My little girl is very young and taking her baby steps to achieve a milestone in her life. So am I. We both inspire and learn something new from each other every day. I found poetry in solace while she was busy playing with her dolls. The biggest gratification that poetry gives?Jyoti: Writing poems gives me immense satisfaction. It's like happiness you get after soul enrichment. It's an empress power to imagine, create and express something, to have an altogether different perspective or lookout towards life, which otherwise I have never thought of. Poetry came in my life as a breath of fresh air, to just break the monotony of my life and I got addicted to it. Poems inspire me and gives me wings to fly. Nothing can stop or block me. To quote this feeling I would say:"Kavitaayien mere dil ko sukoon aur ruah ko raza deti hain, agar berukh ho jaun mein zindagi se toh yeh mujhe jeene ki wajah deti hai, sochti hu akhir kanha hoti mein, iske bina, yeh mujhe mujhse milne ka manka deti hai."Hindi and Urdu poets/works that have inspired you?Jyoti: Rahat Indori, Surender Kumar Sharma, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Suryankant Tripathi Nirala, Mirza Ghalib, Gulzar Saheb, Firaq Gorakhpuri, Piyush Mishra. These all are my personal favorites and gems of poetry. Their work amazes me and inspire me to not only become better as a poet but a better person too. If you have ever read any of them, you would know that all of them possess the art of using simple language which everyone can understand and comprehend with an ease of relativity in their verses, which connect common people to their problems. And I believe that is the accomplishment of poetry if it connects with you and seems relatable to you.Lastly, one memorable line/quote from a book/poem that has stayed with youJyoti: A famous quote, which I truly believe in:"In three words, I can sum up everything, I have ever learned about life: it goes on."- Robert FrostAlso I'd like to quote Gulzar Sahab: "Kabhi tum puch lena, kabhi hum bhi jiker kar lenge, Chupa kar dil ke dard ko, ek dusre ki fiker kar lenge."Catch Jyoti Sabita Yadav performing live at the Free Verse Sessions, this Saturday.
