I believe there is a lot yet to be read and understood: Dhruv Sharma
- Vijayalakshmi Narayanan
Dhruv Sharma is a twenty-plus year old finance lawyer by profession, who often spends his spare time writing nazms and ghazals in Urdu and Hindi. A well-known story-teller in the Mumbai circuit hailing from Bareilly, his videos 'Dilwalon Ki Dilli' and 'Ae Insaan' have received a lot of appreciation online.Radio City Freedom caught up with the young poet ahead of the Free Verse Sessions, scheduled to be held at Fun Republic Social, Andheri on June 30th, 2018.How do you find a balance between finance and poetry?Dhruv: There is no consciously sound balance between finance and poetry. My poetry is a direct consequence and an outpour of the kind of life I lead, coupled with my other observations and experiences in life, particularly women, as accumulated overtime. You see, it39s not that I take out an hour a day to sit down, gather my thoughts and pen down something. The process is more organic and thoughts can come to you at any time, in a business meeting, in a train, in the office canteen, or at a bar. If they aren39t too fleeting and stay with me long enough I make sure I pen them down on a piece of paper. I believe that39s how it39s supposed to be, natural and unadulterated. What according to you is the one outstanding gratification of poetry?Dhruv: I will only speak for myself here. Poetry allows one to both register and explore the truth about the world and human life. A single verse has a capability to be the culmination of your entire life experience. The fact that it allows me to say a lot, in less, the fact that poetry keeps me honest to myself and keeps me in constant touch with the underlying truth of the world we live in, certainly gratifies me.Famous works and poets in Urdu that inspired you.Dhruv: Frankly, I believe there is a lot yet to be read and understood, and be inspired from. At the moment I can say that ghazals of Dr.Wasim Barelvi, Late Mr. Nida Fazli and recently a few selected ghazals of Mr. Munnawar Rana have immensely inspired me. They say the things we all feel and see everyday, they speak everyone39s truth, be it love, heartbreak, poverty, success or passage of time.Lastly, one memorable line/quote from a book/poem that has stayed with you. , , -Dr. Wasim BarelviCatch Dhruv Sharma performing live at the Free Verse Sessions, this Saturday.
